I've looked at a number of these, and this is probably the clearest and best example of how to construct a sorter. My understanding is that the Hopper you fill up with the ID material catches more material of that type only, because it's full and tries to push it out to the first comparitor.

One has hoppers directly underneath the water stream, like so:. The hoppers are connected to an item sorter that has a comparator on the arrow's head's side.
This sorter works. A chest is at a corner, causing items to be put on the ice and a hopper edge.
The items DO get picked up by the hopper, but they do not get sorted. The dummy items also get sucked away as well. What is going on, and how do I fix this? Locking a hopper, by powering it up, blocks both abilities simultaneously - it acts as an inert container - which means other, non-blocked hoppers can still insert items into it, or suck them out.
The sorter requires to pull the items from the 'stream' above, and simultaneously keep it locked in absence of the 'excess' items to keep the filter items in. This is achieved by using two hoppers: the top one holds the filter items and can pull items from the stream as long as it has room to grab them, and signal 'excess', while the bottom one is responsible for pulling the excess out, and not pulling any when there's just the "normal" amount left.
That means the bottom hopper's sucking ability is locked out by a redstone torch in absence of sufficiently strong signal "from above" its pushing functionality is locked too, which is an undesired though mostly harmless side effect. The top hopper's sucking ability is only restricted by the capacity, but we still need to cripple its pushing ability - otherwise the fact the bottom hopper is locked will be moot, as it can still have items pushed into, like any inert container could.
In order to prevent that, the output of the top 'filter' hopper must be directed into any bogus direction where there's no container to push items into - for example, into the comparator.50 Things YOU can Make in Minecraft
That way if the bottom hopper is locked, the items stay in the top hopper and aren't moved anywhere. Failure to point the top hopper in a "wrong" direction is one of most common mistakes when building sorters.

Cave spiders drop the same things that spiders do string and spider eyes. Despite this, cave spider farms are useful because their spawners are easier to find. While a spider spawner may be tucked away in some dungeoncave spider spawners can be found in many mineshafts.
Before starting the farm, you will need to find an abandoned mineshaft that contains a cave spider spawner. The spawner area can be recognized by a large quantity of cobwebs. The cave spider spawner will be in the center of the cobwebs. Once a spawner is found, there are a few things that need to be done before starting the farm.
First, get rid of all the cobwebs with a sword or shears sword yields string and shears yield the cobweb item itselfand quickly light the area around the spawner so that cave spiders won't be able to spawn. Be careful not to accidentally mine the cave spider spawner, because you will not be able to get it back.
The next thing to do is to make the layout for the spawning area. Once the area around the cave spider spawner is all set up, you can start building your farm. Most farms have 2 basic components, the collector and the grinder. The collector is the area around the spawner, which collects the cave spiders, and moves them towards the grinder.
The grinder is what kills the cave spiders. They are usually killed by either the player or an iron golembecause most sources of damage do not damage cave spiders. The spawning area in a cave spider farm is generally the same as for other spawner -based traps. Also, remember that they can climb walls. One way to get the cave spiders to go into the grinder is by pouring water on every block on one side of the spawning area.
Then, dig down 1 for every block on the opposite side, place a water source block on each side of the ditch, and place signs over each block in the ditch. The block where all the water flows into should connect to the grinder room make another channel if needed. Remember that you can stop the flow of water, but still allow mobs and players to get through with signs. There are two types of grinders for any type of mob farm: a manual grinder and an automatic grinder. For a manual grinder, the player kills the mobs, and for an automatic, some other source of damage kills the mobs. For cave spiders, a manual grinder is cheaper and more efficient than an automatic, but requires the player to be there to kill the cave spiders.
Because of their size, ability to hold breath underwater, and ability to climb walls, waterfall damage is difficult to make effective on caves spiders. Also, cactus isn't very effective, because cave spiders are small enough to go in between two cacti without taking damage. This has been a massive issue for every kind of sorting system for as long as bedrock has existed, and it makes things needlessly complicated! It affect pretty much every type of redstone system that uses hoppers, from sorters, logic, timers, auto brewers, and way way more. This is also a parity issue, not just a redstone issue.
Java edition has proper hopper mechanics, and no such issues like the ones we have on bedrock edition. Please sign in to leave a comment. In Bedrock Edition redstone is more logic than the Java Edition. But I have the same issue.
This issue is not logic at all. This has been talked about in the bug tracker. The order gets messed up because of hoppers earlier in a hopper chain pushing items before hoppers later in the chain, leaving earlier items in later slots, effectively lowering their priority.
Idk how the JE does it maybe ask that team how they did it? Hoppers should remember for a tick if they've sent something, so a newly received item can be put into the previous item's slot. Alternatively, incoming item s could be held in a buffer until the hopper sends out item sto ensure proper slot placement.

Edit: Thinking a bit more about it, the buffer would also need to be implemented for all types of storage containers chests, barrels, etc. Don't want a chest between 2 hoppers getting the order messed up. Silent please take it back, I have made 3 different board games in survival and 2 of them utilize this bug. I was about to post and say "This is a known bug, my friend! Seriously tho, how is this working as intended? That array is built using 0-indexed keys and when the hopper wants to push an item, it systematically works its way down the array, remembering the last key it pushed, and then pushes the next highest key number, returning back to key 0 when there are no keys higher than the current one.
As each hopper receives an item Hopper 2it is entered in to an 'array' for that hopper 2using the next available key. If hopper 2 already has an item in slot 5, then the item from Hopper 1, enters the Hopper 2 array as key 0. When hopper 2 pushes its item, it will push key 4 slot 5 first, then key 0 slot 1because hopper 2 recorded that it last pushed an item from key 3 slot 4. This ensures items do not flow out of sequence when moving through hopper chains and will enable parity between the Java version and Bedrock version.
If each hopper in a chain, is also triggered beginning with the last hopper, working backwards to the very first hopper, this will also ensure that several items moving through a hopper chain, continue to run in the order than they were first pushed from Hopper 1 to Hopper 2.

The hopper is a redstone component which can be used to manage items. Basic Auto Smelter. To make the smelting process more efficient, it is possible to use hoppers to ensure a furnace is never left empty. In the shown schematic, chest A is for items such as uncooked meat, chest B is for fuel such as coaland chest C holds the output.
Since furnaces can hold fuel without a chest, chest B and its hopper are unnecessary. This type of system also works with the smoker and blast furnace.
As furnaces retain experience when items are removed by hoppers, multiple of these can be run for an extended period of time to make an experience farm. When one item is removed from a furnace, all experience will be instantly received. Using a hopper system like this greatly speeds up the process of smelting large numbers of items. Should it become necessary to smelt an even larger number however, it is possible to link multiple modules to create what is commonly called a "furnace array.

When enough items fill the top hopper, the bottom hopper is unpowered so that it can remove the extra items. Usually chests are placed sideways to the right of the bottom hopper. Additional hoppers can be added below or to the right of the bottom hopper to attach more chests. The bottom hopper is the only one that needs to be powered though one immediately below it would also be powered by the redstone torchso as many hoppers and chests as necessary can be added.
At the end of an item sorter, there is usually a chest to catch any items that didn't get sorted for some reason. This is helpful in case a valuable tool or such is accidentally dropped in. If a chest becomes full, it can also prevent the loss of items of that type. Sometimes large farms' storages will use lava instead to prevent a buildup of items should the storage completely fill up.
When multiple sorters are tiled directly next to each other, it is usually desirable to have overflow protection. In an overflow safe sorter, even if the topmost hopper has filled up due to an "overflow," the redstone signal strength will not be great enough to interfere with adjacent sorters.
In the sorter shown, 1 full stack of items and 4 junk items will produce a signal strength of 3. This is just strong enough to unlock the bottom hopper without affecting adjacent hoppers. If the signal strength were to get up to 4 however, the adjacent hoppers would be unlocked causing the whole system to break down. The first slot of the input hopper should contain the item being sorted out. The other slots should contain items which will never go through the system.
